Gas shipping

Drewry projects more than 1,000 LNG-fuelled vessels to be in service by 2027. However, development of the bunkering infrastructure appears to be lagging in comparison to the growth in fleet as well as the potential demand, which could take a leap of 30 million tonnes by 2028 under our high-case scenario.
Iran’s recent attack on Israel has escalated the tensions in the Middle East and raised concerns over LNG trade through the Strait of Hormuz (SoH), a key and only feasible passage for Qatar and the UAE to export LNG. Any further escalation, leading to the closure of the SoH could impact LNG shipping as 21% of the global LNG supply could be affected.
The rising interest in clean ammonia, touted as the next zero-carbon fuel, is boosting orders for Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLAC). The orderbook is stacking up with the specialised vessels, but concerns over possible delays in the start-up of planned ammonia projects have thrown a caution in the air.
