Background

  • Finland’s maritime sector is highly competitive in digital and green port initiatives. Business Finland China engaged Drewry to analyse the current market situation of digital and green ports in China, focusing on operation automation and optimisation as key entry points.

Client Objectives

  • To provide a deeper understanding of which Finnish technologies and services are in demand in the China market

  • To list the key Chinese players to help Finnish companies find their potential business partners

Drewry Approach

  • The study focused on container port/terminals. We selected 2-3 port operators in north and south China, and described their development in terms of digital port and green port.

  • Some of the preferred ports were interviewed as part of the study.

  • Step 1: The client provided key products/services of Finland maritime companies and shared their strength compared to competitors.

  • Step 2: Drewry reviewed its competitiveness and provided an understanding of the China market, a sense of market potential of Finland products/service, opportunities and challenge.

Results Achieved

  • Drewry team described key technologies and initiatives in smart port and green port, and reviewed and analysed the market players and their product/services. Also provided:

    • Case studies of the application of these technologies/initiatives in China port market

    • Our view on the potentials of these technologies and initiatives, and Finland companies’ possible approach of market entry
